Increasing your traffic and sales with Visitor 2 Buyer

As any webmaster knows, he is in a never-ending quest to increase the amount and quality of visitors to his / her site, or drive the sales up if it's an e-commerce site. Traditionally this is achieved by modifying the content shown on page and its placement. Let's face it. Each web page has a very finite amount of space, so we can't clog it with information without slowing down the site or making it look ugly. Even more if it's content not relevant to returning visitors. How do we work around this? This article is an extended version of the one run in iJoobi's site. The main difference is that this version also shows the exact configuration options required to achieve each effect.

Ελληνικά SMS μεγάλου μήκους στα Windows Mobile κινητά

This article is only available in Greek!Σε προηγούμενο άρθρο μου είχα παρουσιάσει ένα πρόγραμμα που έχω φτιάξει για την αποστολή SMS στα Ελληνικά από συσκευές που "τρέχουν" Windows Mobile χωρίς περιορισμό 70 χαρακτήρων ανά SMS.

The Bleeding Edge

As most of you already know, I am the lead developer of the JoomlaPack site backup component. With the advent of JoomlaPack 2.0, building the component from its sources became an involving process, with a long list of requirements. I admit it: building the component from source requires a geek.

On top of that, we've decided to follow a more refined approach to JoomlaPack releases. Instead of bombarding users with numerous alpha and beta releases - often undergone nothing but minimal testing - we are now releasing heavily tested software, in the price of infrequent releases. The minimum time between releases is about a month. This is a long time for someone who has to deal with a show-stopper bug, only fixed in the SVN.

GPSTool

GPSTool is an application for Pocket PC's (PDA's with touch screen running Windows Mobile 2003 or later) which have a built-in or otherwise attached GPS receiver. With GPSTool you can not only find your location as WGS84 coordinates, but save it right away as a Destinator 6 or 7 favourite entry. This software requires .NET Compact Framework 2.0 or later to be installed (available for Windows Mobile 2003/2005 devices and built-in on Windows Mobile 6.0 or later devices).

This software is only available in Greek. All text strings are hard-coded, but the source code is commented in English. If you'd like to produce a localized version, please contact me.

Header image rotator for Joomla! 1.5.x

I have often mentioned the virtues of Joomla! CMS. It is a fully featured, extensible and versatile Open Source content management system written in PHP. Its ability to adapt to individual needs made it an invaluable asset in my web design endeavors, leading me to even start developing a backup component for it.

I had been building the website for my former employer. One of the needs which arose was this for dynamically rotating images in the header. The concept was very simple indeed: a section of the header was reserved to display one image at a time. After a specified timeout, the image would cross-fade to another image of a predefined image set. This is the very concept for fading image rotators.

To my surprise, nobody had ever such a script for Joomla! 1.5! There had been some really great modules for the older Joomla! 1.0.x which, unfortunately, refused to work. There were even some half-baked attempts to create such a module for Joomla! 1.5, but using them on my site proved to be impossible. Disappointed by this situation, I set off to "roll my own".

New version 1.1 (November 2008) fixes problems related to DOM not being initialized on startup and when jQuery was being used on the same page. Kudos to Manolis Andreadakis for the patch
